great valentine's

my wife and i went up (our first time) for valentine's dinner. we had shrimp appetizer ,which was real gulf shrimp, wine (guenoc merlot was good) and wife had lobster ravioli which she said was alot better than bravo, and i had rack of lamb which was awesome(i felt like henry the eighth). the salad was fresh and glad i ordered it even though i was totally full at the end and almost licked the plate on my rack of lamb. i was totally impressed and the waitress was excellent. would give it a 5 star. we will go back with our wine group friends.

friendly Kickin'

After reading a few of these reviews I decided to check out Ponte Vecchio myself... I was in town for only a few days and so many people that I know here in Cleveland suggested I check the place out as it is their favorite place to dine. So, I arrived at Ponte Vecchio on a busy weekend evening and sat at the bar having a glass of wine while I waited for my friends. I was greated at the door by a friendly man in a blue shirt who asked my if I had reservations and I said yes and told him that I was waiting on the arrival of my friends so I would go to the bar to wait. After a short while my friends arrived and we were sat at a beautiful table which over looked the flats and hard iron and steel bridges as well as, the Cleveland Sky line! WOW, what a great place I said to my self the beautiful granite tables and heavy wooden chairs all the windows I hope the food is as good as the ambiance! I ordered the braised beef shortribs which were so tender they melted in my mouth! Before that I had that Roasted beet salad which was wonderfully prepared and presented and more that ample in the amount that was given. My friends had that strip steak and the pork chop. The Strip steak was definitely top grade and very flavorful as was the beautiful double cut pork chop which was subtly infused with spicey warm flavors that were complimneted by a home made apple sauce. The service was professional and doting without being intrusive and for the most part we didn't even know that Sharon was there (that's what she said her name was). Obviously, this was one enjoyable experience we all agreed as we drank our Cappuccino's and Gran Marnier's and shared a chocolate peanut butter crunch! I will definitely be back when in town and will tell others I know going to Cleveland to stop in and check Ponte Vecchio out!

UGH

I have to say Im very DISAPPOINTED in our meal at ponte vecchio!! WE started off with drinks at 2020 martini lounge with spinach dip that was fabulous!! But we decided to travel to ponte for some dinner. The staff was great, but the food was awful!!!! We started off with a scallop salad which was boring and uneventful. We continued on to the main course, rigatoni and a NY strip steak....save the money, any person can cook their own pasta with an ordinary cream sauce and the steak......... let's just say our dog enjoyed the fatty piece of "cooked" meat that was presented drenched in BBQ sauce, well my fiance said it best, "any good steak place would never soak their meat in sauce".....completely overpriced for the meal and the view was'nt even worth the $$ signs....def disappointeed.......so sorry it cost too much for such an awful meal

Great Happy Hour

Have been to Ponte Vecchio several times and like it a lot. They have a great half off happy hour during the week at the bar, plus parking is not a problem and the view is great. I am not a big eater so the portion sizes were fine for me, although the selection for vegetarians was skimpy. Good thing I don't mind salad. My friend was not that impressed, said his pork chop was drier than he would like. The nice italian wine list definitely soothed us though !

Great taste left wanting more.

We arrived on time for our reservation on new years eve (specifically asked for the view) but had to wait 45 minutes for another party who had arrived late. The wait became our problem and at our cost. At a restaurant that caters to the upper echelon this is simply NOT acceptable. I can only attest this to a poor and amateur management decision. I must mention the embarrassing mistake when we received our appetizer. My wife had ordered a prosciutto and cheese salad. When the waiter brought out the appetizer we were missing the prosciutto and cheese! The weird thing about the whole episode was what had been brought out was not even on the menu! Apparently the chef had forgot to finish the salad and the waiter had not verified the order before serving it! This is NOT acceptable especially when a restaurant is at a 70% capacity. The food was incredible but lasted for only a short minute which was very disappointing to out party. When I eat at an Italian restaurant I expect to be fed to the point of wanting to return again. I did not feel this way nor will I return or recommend this place to anyone. The portion sizes were just too small to create a synapses point in my brain reinforcing a good memory path. My opinion is a side salad should never be alacarte but rather part of the meal. An Italian born restaurant owner should know this. A salad or antipasto is ALWAYS given before the meal for digestion purposes. Spending $120 on a meal for two (without drinks) can be a delight when you can walk away feeling satisfied. This was not the case at Ponte Vecchio. I left feeling swindled for a presentation that was neither worth the wait nor my gratuity. Ratings are 1-5 5 being excellent and 2.5 as average. Food/Flavor-4 Portion Size-2 (prepare for a fill up on bread meal) Service/Managment-2 (possibly new staff?) Ambiance-3 View-2 (The seating with the view was impaired by a filthy window) Overall-2 for this caliber of dining I expect much more ass kissing.

Impressive...

I recently enjoyed dinner at Ponte Vecchio with my husband. The service was consistent we were well tended to and the view was very unique. The food was tasty and the wine selection was bountiful! The only issues I have are the selection of food and the gossiping that seemed to go on behind the bar and down aisleways... a great bar with a good selection!

Ponte Vecchio Impresses

I recognized the owner Marco Rossi formerly an owner at the successful restaurant Aromas talking at the bar with one of Cleveland''s radio icons eating at the bar. The place has a great view of the Cleveland downtown and has wonderful ambiance. The restaurant shares its home with the County Engineer. The server we had was very good to us the entire evening; not rushing us at all. The menu has a lot to offer. My veal scaloppini was wonderful as were the rest of the dishes at our table. For dessert I have never had tiramisu served the way they do. With a fun and tasty twist the tiramisu is served so that you construct it before you put it in your mouth. For those wanting to have some nice wine wit their meal they have a wonder list; by the bottle or by the glass. We had a nice bottle of a 2000 barbaresco. I would welcome a website so that I could see their full menu so that I can recall what wines they have and so I can read again about all the wonderful food. Prices are very reasonable for what you receive. It can definitely be used as a special occasion restaurant. Their bar has a great big television for those that are happy just coming for a bite to eat while they watch news or sports at the bar. I hope to visit again. Ponte Vecchio will definitely be rated as one of the firs tier restaurants in the Greater Cleveland area. Marco Rossi hosted some wonderful chef tasting dinners paired with wine at Aromas. I hope he does the same at Ponte Vecchio. Hope you enjoy it too! THe West bank needed this place. By the way I looked it up. Ponte Vecchio translates from Italian as "old bridge". Looking out the window it is fitting.
