The seafood at Mitchell's is the freshest ('flown in daily'), the prices are very reasonable and the service is great. I also give them high marks for ambiance and atmosphere. Both the lunch and dinner menus have a large variety of items to choose from. My husband is a seafood LOVER, so we went there on Friday last to celebrate his 55th birthday. We were enjoying the food and the whole experience until we got about half-way through- that's when the fun began... My husband orderd a huge seafood platter plus an 'a la carte' lobster tail; I ordered just a fried cod sandwich platter (which the waiter graciously allowed me to get from the luncheon menu). The food was exccedingly good and perfectly seasoned and as I said, we were enjoying ourselves immensely, when about half-way through the meal... I inserted my fork into the cod and pulled out a SHRIMP TAIL!!! Now, I could almost accept this if the HEAD were also attached, but this was just a TAIL!!! This means that not only was there something in the batter that did not belong there, but that it obviously came off of either another diner's plate of eaten food, or the cook was eating shrimp and dropped the bitten-off tail into the batter- either way, it was NOT pleasant. Before calling over the waiter and manager, we did study the situation and determined that it MUST have been in the actual batter (versus just the oil) because it was cooked in between the batter coating and the fish itself and was fully stuffed with batter! The poor waiter was mortified and quickly called over 'Tim' (the manager), who told us that he had no excuse and agreed that it was 'unacceptable'. He offered to take my meal off of the bill and said he'd prepare another sandwich for me (which I took a 'pass' on), apologized a couple of more times, then left. He did not offer to pick up the entire tab, did not offer us a gift certificate for another time, or any other appeasement. At this point, my husband could not finish his meal (even he was grossed-out, and it takes a lot to make him not want to finish a coveted seafood platter!!) So, we went home dejected and unsated. We ended up eating microwave popcorn in front of the TV. Not the birthday celebration we had in mind! Am I being too hard on Mitchell's, or does anyone else agree that more should have been done?? Just an aside- even with this incident, I have to reiterate that the food is really good and this is probably something that rarely (if ever) occurs. I just think that the situation should have been handled differently.
