mint cafe everything was good. had reservation for 7, they were ready for us and busy. food was great, service was great! prices were great. kirtland 7/25/2007 The perfect place A friend and I, who get together about once a month to catch up and have dinner, went to Mint Cafe last night. It was a great time. Our server was really nice, and had a good sense of humor. My friend and I like to talk, so we didnt order until about the third time our server came over. Our food was fabulous. We ate so much, and were there for so long, and it was relatively inexpensive. Also, they have amazing bubble tea. If you have never tried bubble tea, you really should, it was probably my favorite part of the meal :) University Heights 12/5/2006 Dont Miss This Gem! The atmosphere is great. The food is always attractively presented, the waitstaff are courteous and attive, the management is always willing to work with you for groups and even special menus. Wow. And let's not forget -- every entree on the regular menus is below $15. Really WOW! So, it is not surprising I keep their take out menu handy, even when I am not planning a wedding party meal there! Don't let humble prices food you -- the food itself is delicious, flavorful, colorful, and mouthwatering. The options include Chicken, beef, pork, tofu, vegetable, shrinp, duck, or combinations. Many of their items can be prepared vegan/vegetarian. Their are 10 appretizers, 4 soups, 3 salads to get you started! The vegan appetizer we like best is tofu triangles, served with sauces. ($3.95) Non-vegan: We love the golden bag appetizers, ($5.95) despite a less favorable Scene review. It has a good texture with the shriimp, water chestnuts, mushrooms and spice ground into a unique taste inside a tofu "bag" and is tied with scallions. Their skewered beef satay ($5.50) appetizer is also very mouthwatering. Seaweed salad ($4.95) dressed lightly in sesame oil and a kiss of vinegar is also very nice departure from mundane usuals. Try the Summer rolls ($3.95) for a fresh crisp infusion of basil, shrimp, vermicelli, etc. (they are served cold, that is the summer part!) The Siam rolls ($4.95)are spring rolls-- served crisp and what you expect from a good spring roll. Now for the main dishes! 10 Noodle or fried rice dishes, pan fried, sauteed or stir fried to perfection. This includes the expected Pad Thai, which has gotten favorable reviews, as can be expected! Six types of curry sauce/veggie combos can be prepared with your choice of: Chicken, beef, pork, tofu, vegetable, shrinp, duck, or a trio of chicken beef and shrimp call the Mint Cafe Special. The basic mild curry is such that Americans wont have unhappy surprises with the heat, and thus can taste the flavors. Order the heat level you are comfortable with, and they will be true to it. Their curries are very good. Create your own curry combo ($9.50-12.95) from the menu options. Now, 11 rice dishes to choose from, all priced $9.75 or $9.95. These dishes are prepared by sautee or stir fry, and are called rice dishes as they are served with jasmine or brown rice (your choice) that is shaped into a cone. These are excellent, and all can be made vegetarian/vegan with tofu. We have yet to be disappointed with any of them! There are also 15 "Signature Dishes" (from $9.95 to $13.95) on the menu. Again, we are yet to be disappointed. ASmong thse, the vegan main dish favorite for us is the Mango Curry made with Tofu instead of chicken.($11.95) It is a flavorful mild curry that can be adjusted in heat. As the salmon craver in our bunch, I approve of the Salmon Choo Chee, ($12.95) which basically a stir fry with a very flavorful sauce-- oh yum! I also approve of the "Lady in Green" ($12.95) which is salmon wrapped in napa cabbage and steamed, served with steamed veggies and crispy spinach with a very mild and flavorful yellow curry. Now, I have to admit though, these pale in comparison to the salmon dishes on the "From the Grill" menu. This section has 5 entrees, including my two favorite dishes to order at Mint Cafe: Garlic Salmon and Grilled Salmon Teriyaki. I virtually always want these, because they are unparalleled in my Salmon eating experiences. There is also a dedicated "Vegetarian Corner" on the menu -- 8 dishes all under $10 that feature vegetables with or without tofu. Desserts include our favorite, a banana "spring roll" dressed with chocolate syrup -- very yummy. For drinks, they include bubble teas and mango smoothies, both favorites in our circle.
