Koko Bakery is in Cleveland's Asia Town in the MidTown neighborhod, east of Downtown. Koko is much more than a bakery with a complete lunch menu and fresh Chinese buns.
Not sure about any rudeness here, the baked pork buns are very tasty and I like the cream filled buns also. The place is very clean. I can not wait to go back and try some other items. This place was better than the supposed best Chinese bakery I went to in San Francisco Chinatown and on par with my favorite bakery in Los Angeles Chinatown. Recommended ! bay village 5/17/2010 Great Pastries, Rude Manager/Owner I have never in my life gotten into an argument with a stranger before, let alone a store worker/owner/manager/etc. I mentioned that the signs were unclear (ex: they sell buns packaged in threes in the refrigeration unit and the price tag says 1.45 each. You would assume 1.45 each unit of 3, but they mean 1.45 per bun. It's like a price tag for a bag of chips saying: 1/3 bag = $0.50). So upon mentioning this fact, she immediately chimed in and started getting angry, telling me there are many interpretations and she doesn't know my educational background. I rolled my eyes at her tone of voice and of course she snapped at me for that as well. Had I not promised my coworkers I was bringing in food from KoKos, I definitely would've returned the $20 worth of food I purchased. All I did was mention that something was unclear and a mere "Sorry for the confusion" would have sufficed. Needless to say, this is my last trip to KoKo. No matter how good Asian baked goods are, I would really rather not support her business. It's quite sad because I have been there many many times and have brought several friends. She was always smiley then. I guess she just doesn't take criticism well. What an experience.. Cleveland 3/7/2010 Great Bakery I have been to Chinatowns all over the country and I have to say that Koko is one the best. It is bright and clean with a wide variety of buns, cakes and cookies. I usually pick up a half dozen buns in the morning when their still warm. The coffee and service are fantastic. I highly recommend this place. Brecksville 1/6/2010 Lousy Service, rude manager The customer service is one of the worst that I have ever seen. The middle age female manager was so rude, I can say that they should be called 'Unfriendly's.' cleveland 12/2/2009 Love it! I just found this little bakery about a week or two ago. The service is wonderful, the buns are delicious (and affordable!), The atmosphere is nice and cozy, and the tea is delicious. Though some of the teas are a bit bitter for my personal taste, others are delicious, such as the rose tea, or honey dew bubble tea. I have yet to taste any of the lunch menus. But, garden cafe next door to koko bakery has delicious food. But, koko bakery is a great place for buns and tea! 90 cents per bun? How can you beat that?! Toledo 8/13/2009 Bad bad bad I totally agree with the one said poor service n food, and also the price is unreasonable, the price goes up almost every month. a lot of time they sell the one day old bread the next day too. The attitude of the staff is bad, seldom look at the customer N no patient to answer while asking questions. Anonymous 7/15/2009 Excellent food and service! This place has exellent Chinese baked goods, good coffee and bubble tea and the service is excellent! I bought some bread from a Chinese bakery in L.A. during a recent trip (Nai Su bread) and I was dissapointed. Ko Ko's is way better. They use good ingredients and they keep their place clean. Also nice there is books and a few toys available for kids to play while you enjoy a treat and coffee. Cleveland Heights 4/11/2009 great place great staff that is so polite and friendly. It's very clean and cozy inside, highly recommended if you want some tasty bakery and beverages . cleveland 3/18/2009 Try Garden Cafe next door This is decent, only bakery in Chinatown. But if you want to try real Chinese food, you can find it next door at Garden Cafe. Best in town! Westlake 2/28/2009 Chinese bakery? obviously someone hasn't tasted true Taiwanese bakery before and is limited to their little tiny world of food. please open your taste buds and accept other styles of bakery, which is apparently better. Boston 8/24/2008 poor service and food Whoever wrote the comment as being "THEE" bakery in town has probably either not tasted what true "Chinese Bakery" is -or- is an employee or owner of this bakery because the bread is dry & tasteless which leads me to believe that it's old. But I understand why they have been "successful" -they take advantage of the fact that there are no other bakeries of that kind near by. So please, do not get misled...But if you have a craving for this type of bread and don't mind it being old...I guess you have no choice but to go there; though I would not recommend it. Canton 7/2/2008 Great Place to eat I love this little bakery and have been frequenting it several times a month usually on Saturdays. The birthday cake is delicious and very pleasing to the eye. My brother is a vegetarian and they are happy to make him vegetarian versions of some of the non-vegetarian foods and they often give us samples to try of other foods. While the bubble teas are good my favorite drink is the Hong Kong tea. Maple Heights 1/3/2008 awesomeness I <3 their bubble tea Anonymous 8/30/2007 Not only wonderful food-ther service is A++++++ Koko's is my favorite place for either a delicious meal, savory smoothie, or mouth watering dessert. I highly recommend the rice bowls, they are great. Desserts are gourmet quality and fair priced. I will be a customer for a long time. Tanya B 7/10/2007 great cakes I heard about the Chinese bakery from a friend who works in the area. I usually buy cassata cakes from Little Italy, but I wanted to try something new. The 10" cake had strawberries, rasberries and peaches on top, mixed fruit in the middle and a whipped cream frosting. The yellow cake was light and fluffy like a sponge cake. The cake got rave reviews at the birthday party. Brecksville 5/18/2007 a wonderful find I saw a flyer for this bakery at the Asia plaza. Since it was only a few blocks away, I stopped in not expecting much but to my absolute surprise, I found fruit tarts, red bean buns, delicious chocolate cake and even lunch (chicken Teraki rice bowl and a pork katsu sandwich) The worker was fabulous and let us sample some cofee cake. This truly was a treat with very good food. I highly recomend this bakery and I will definately be back. Wickliffe 12/10/2006 Great new stop for lunch in Asia Town I drove through Asia Town in Cleveland a couple weeks ago and noticed a new plaza on Payne Ave. I stopped in yesterday and had a fantastic lunch there. They have salads, sandwiches, fresh ginger dressing for their salads and a wide variety of Chinese dessert buns. If you're traveling through MidTown, I highly recommend it.
