best sushi in cleveland

With regards to the "Terrible!" reviewer, I would have to disagree. My husband I have tried other local sushi places, including Pacific East and Sushi Rock, and we both find Ariyoshi to provide the freshest and cheapest sushi around Cleveland. We've never had any trouble getting the 1/2 price special and were very pleased with the portion size. The 1/2 price special is only available on certain hours of the day, so I would double check. Additionally, if you've ever been to a real sushi restaurant, they don't serve all your orders simultaneously. Sushi is made to order to ensure their freshness....you don't want your raw fish to be drying up on the plate while the sushi chef is making your friend's roll, do you? In sum, we've taken many of our local and out-of-town friends to Ariyoshi and everyone has complimented on how good this place is. Coming from L.A., we like to say we are picky with our sushi and this place wins our vote.

Terrible!

To be succinct: 1. Food delivery was unacceptable: Food arrived at scattered intervals. The first sushi was brought out for one person…then 5 minutes later another person’s sushi was brought out… then 5 minutes later another sushi was brought out… and this continued for a span of 30 minutes. No one was able to eat together based on this. 2. Waitress was not attentive to table: She never checked on us – we had to physically get up and find her if we needed water. 3. Incorrect orders: All orders were incorrect, despite our table writing them down for her. 4. Did not honor specials: Despite website promoting ½ price sushi night on Wednesday, the management said that the website was “outdated and old” and they weren’t honoring the discount. The promotion is STILL posted on their website. 5. Food quality: VERY poor. Unfortunately we were unable to consume our meals – the fish was not fresh and tasted unfresh. 6. Final Bill: The bill was completely incorrect AND it took over 15 minutes to receive the check/bill when we asked. When we mentioned the incorrect items on the bill it took another 10 minutes to explain that we didn’t order certain items and to have them removed. In closing, this was a terrible dining experience. I would not recommend this to anyone. Instead of this sushi restaurant, choose another one. Might I recommend Sushi Rock or Otani or Shuhei to start.

Ariyoshi delivers the authentic flabours of Japan!

Being part Japanese and having spent a good portion of my summers growing up over there, I have found it extremely difficult to find authentic Japanese meals here in Cleveland, Ohio. Aside from making certain dishes at home or having my mother prepare them for me as a child, most "Japanese" restaurants get it wrong. Ariyoshi is one that actually gets most of it right. I was very sad to see that the owner of Daishin had sold his business over at Great Northern. Before Ariyoshi, that was the place to get good Japanese homestyle and special meals. I was told by an Asian grocer that the owner had opened up Ariyoshi on the east side and they pretty much duplicated the menu. I had a bento box with osushi, tempura and a host of other delights. My dining partners had the beef negimaki (specially requested as a dinner portion) and the una-jun, a broiled eel dish. All of us were pleased as could be. One of the diners was my mother and she's extremely critical of Japanese cuisine in the States. What you won't find here is a hibachi. I'll also add that a hibachi is NOT Japanese. It's a modified form of Korean and Chinese dining that was adopted by Japanese restaurants. I really hope that this place does well. The staff is wonderful and quite helpful. I will definitely return in the near future.
