Worth the wait If you are in a rush, Akira may not be for you. If you aren't in a rush, love good sushi and quality hibachi, you will love Akira. If you are having dinner for two, I recommend splitting one of the hibachi dinners and ordering a couple of sushi rolls. The Volcano Roll is their specialty and rarely dissapoints. If you order sushi the split meal charge of $4 is usually waived. If not, ask owner Anna to waive the charge. Anna and her husband/sushi chef Hank are friendly and accomodating. Enjoy. Solon 3/2/2008 Kids at sushi bar? Uummmm...no. Thank you Akira It's REFRESHING that a restaurant will actually cater to ADULTS and not families for a change. I have an 18 mo. old, but until he's 18, no, he will not sit at a sushi bar. For the lady who complained about no kids at the sushi bar - ummmm. I wouldn't want to sit next to your six year old. Thanks for sticking up for adults who get BABYSITTERS to go out for nice meals. Oh, and Akira has some great sushi, too. :) Anonymous 11/1/2007 Pathetic Stopped in for sushi just last week, on a Monday. Ordered our meals, I ordered sushi, which I was told would not be available for 45 minutes to an hour, but I was not told this until the chef was starting to cook meals for the rest of our party. When questioning the manager about the situation, he was rude and arrogant. I have recently started going to the Samurai. I can actually get sushi there. I'll never go back!!!!! Pathetic!!!! solon 8/16/2007 Poor Service, Great sushi Akira has great sushi. Unfortuately, their service is very slow and occasionally outright arrogant and rude. When we stopped in one night, we were told "children are not allowed at the sushi bar or sushi seating area"...even though it was 2/3 empty. (We have two girls, aged 6 and 10, who love sushi). We will not go back. chagrin falls 3/22/2007 Best Japanese in NE Ohio! For very good sushi, udon and other delicious Japanese food, Akira is the place. Please don't let the negative reviewers discourage you from enjoying a wonderful meal here. As a long-time sushi lover having lived for many years in the San Francisco bay area, I genuinely feel this is the best sushi and Japanese food available in the Cleveland area. While the service can be uneven, it has never been "bad" during my many visits. The owner is always cheerful and accommodating. I must question the reviewers who "had" to leave before even trying the food due to service. You will be offered a choice upon arrival: try the traditional Japanese menu rather than the hibachi cooktops, unless you are dining with children or as a larger group. Then sit back, relax and enjoy. Aurora 3/9/2007 Dazed and Confused Akira was great. After reading all the reviews before mine, my first reaction was of disbelief about how they could have gone to the same place as me! I sat at the sushi bar with my friend (and by the way the guys behind the counter aren't supposed to take your order, they just make the sushi) and the service was okay. Quite literally, our waitress was a little extreme. That is, when we asked for her to come back in a second, she came back in about 90 seconds (probably just between rounds into and out of the kitchen), and then when we asked for a bit more time to decide what we wanted, she didn't come back for about 5 minutes. Also, she did have the usual non-American sense of volume about her (read: she, while not yelling, was a bit louder than native english speakers would have been) That is the extent of anything bad. I went there to try sushi, and it was great. No worries about stomach problems from Akira! I managed to eat my fill of intricately put together sushi pieces for $15 per person, a reasonable price especially considering the athmosphere Tom F from Painesville 2/12/2007 akria is great i don't live here anymore, but i still go to akira whenever i'm home. i've read the negative reviews, and i can tell you from years of going there that they are stretching their story just a little. the owner is always very nice and at the front of the place greeting people. the food is wonderful and i keep going back. Anonymous 12/27/2006 Goofy We called and made a reservation. When we got there, they had our name incorrect and the number of people in our party. We had a bit of a wait to be seated as they said they were waiting on a quieter place to seat us since there was a group of young people for homecoming. Where did they seat us? Right next to a homecoming group. This was fine as the young people were just fine, even cute to watch. Our food was average at best. Not sure I would pay to eat there again. Hubby said sushi was better than the meal. Solon 9/30/2006 How do you say BAD SERVICE in Japanese? There's a first for everything and tonight was the first time I ever walked out of a restaurant. My husband made reservations for our anniversary. We ordered drinks at the bar and then the hostess sat us at our table. The place wasn't even half full. At least four waitresses walked by but no one even bothered to say someone will be with you. After 20 minutes of NO ONE coming to our table we asked to sit at the Sushi Bar. After 15 minutes not one of the 4 men behind the counter ever asked us for our order. When we finally spoke up, the man behind the counter acted like we were bothering him. When we finally complained to the hostess and told her we were leaving she had the audacity to ask us to wait for our drink check. What a horrible place. No Sushi in the world can warrant that kind of service. Hudson 7/4/2006 If You Want Fresh.... Akira's sushi is the freshest and most authentic around. The chef hails from Japan by way of New York and it shows in his sophisticated and fresh presentations. If you prefer hibachi the restaurant features very high grade steak. The wait for a table can be too long sometimes but the super friendly manager makes up for it by making all of her guests feel at home. Anonymous 10/11/2005 Akira? No. Very rude! Akira Hibachi was said to be a very nice place with nice people but not when I went there. I had to wait for 15 minutes before anyone even noticed I was there and it was not busy at all. I was treated very rudely and will not go back again. That is not the way to treat a customer... "The customer is always right" ... Right? Not there I ended up leaving before I was served because of the rudeness. Anonymous 6/5/2005 Post your own review of this venuePlease take a look at our guidelines for help and our disclaimer.
