We ordered Chicken Fingers, fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, and a salad to take out. When we got the food, there was one chicken finger that looked decent, but the others were deformed, small, and a disgrace to even be called chicken. The fries that it came with were stuck together in clumps, and looked as if they had come out of the trash! The Fettuccine Alfredo was pretty good, even though it tasted kind of funny. LISTEN TO ALL OF THE REVIEWS, DO NOT GO HERE! If you are seeking a fine dining experience, I recommend Santo's Italian Restaurant on Cleveland's southwest. Anonymous 2/4/2012 Go to Aldo's Instead We walked in at 11:30 with our party of 10. We made reservations 2 weeks ago. When we walked in, there was no one in there at all. We waited about 2 min. before someone came in from the back. They looked surprised that we were there. We told them we had reservations for 10 and they went off walking around and finally threw three tables together. We sat and they very slowly brought out water, then finally brought out a menu, and then oil for the bread (which they did not bring out yet). The girl said there was no veal today which cut the menu down 25%. She took the order for the fried calamari and brochette. We waited another 10 or so min. before a little guy with a lip ring and a solitary white glove in a sweater with rolled up sleeves came out. He tilted his head to the side and said, "We got a problem, no calamari." A person in our party replied, "No veal and no calamari?" The guy then said, "We ain't got no veal, we ain't got no calamari, we ain't got no sausage..." One of the people in our group asked him, "do you have a chef?" He paused and said, "The chef called in sick today but you have me, I have been working here for 11 years." We all looked at each other and asked, "if he is not the chef, but he has worked here for 11 years, does that mean he washed dishes and watched the chef cook, who has an iphone?" We ended up leaving and going to a little Italian place down the road called Aldo's and had a great meal there. Anonymous 12/9/2010 worst in cleveland I have been there twice in two weeks and received good service from staff but owner well that's another story.. I received gift certificate 50 dollars.. thinking dinner apps drinks.. First liqueur selection poor wine selection for Italian restaurant even worse.. and the cabrese was with shredded fake mozzarella .not single cut piece.. DID I tell you they denied the gift certificate from them.. NEVER again Cleveland 5/23/2010 Disrespected by Management My boyfriend and I received a gift certificate for $50 from his aunt for this restaurant. Neither one of us had ever been there so we were excited to try it out this past Saturday night. As soon as we were seated the server immediately asked us up front if we had any coupons or gift certificates. We showed her the one we had which clearly stated "no expiration". After showing this certificate to management, they refused it saying that it was a promotion that they ran and it was no longer accepted there. They tried to offer us 5 $10 certificates instead that they said couldn't be used at the same time. I'm not quite sure what the point of that would be. We thought that was ridiculous and ended up leaving embarrassed and hungry. We ended up going somewhere else and having a wonderful meal and great service. (The Beer Engine in Lakewood) My plan was to write a nice review about Agostino's restaurant on this board. Looks like my plan changed abruptly. Melissa from Lakewood 5/19/2009 Disappointed I am 70 years old and, over the years, I have enjoyed many dinners at Agostino's. Both the food and service has always been exceptional. This past Christmas, I was again given a $50.00 Gift Certificate by my neighbors as a "thank you" for the favors I had done for them through the year. As in the past, I wanted to use it for "take-out." This has never been a problem, so I used this Certificate for pizza take-out in March for my 70th birthday party. This past week, I again called and wanted to use the balance of the certificate on two take-out dinners. The Waitress said, "No problem." However, when I went to pick up the order, I was told by management they no longer honor gift certificates on take-out orders, and I had to pay cash. My neighbors paid $50.00 cash for this certificate, and no where on it does it say "dine-in only." I find this treatment very unfair and unprofessional. Needless to say, I will no longer "dine-in" at Agostino's, or recommend them to others. Nancy W from Cleveland 11/14/2008 Good food, great service! I had my son's birthday dinner here on June 14, 2008, in their private party room. The service was excellent, and the food they served was very good. (We had an all vegetarian buffet, per my request). The owner was very nice to work with, and communicated well. I felt at ease when I was planning the party. I would not hesitate to book another party with them!! Or just go to Agostino's again just to have dinner! Latha S. from Cleveland 10/29/2008 bad food and service Friends and I had dinner on the 23rd of February 2008.The food we ordered was below average. I had the cavatelli which were very gooey from all the melted cheese & the meatballs were dry and tasteless.Your waitstaff was harried and over-worekd and it seemed you didn't have enough help that night as the room was quite full. My wifes meal was not warm.We usually enjoy your restaurant but that night it was a bummer all the wayaround. Seven Hills 3/1/2008 Two thumbs up Attended a birthday dinner today for about 50 people and found that everything at Agostino's was very good. Served in a family style setting, service was timely and the food was very good. From the dinner salad and vinagrette dressing to the chicken marsala and pasta, everything was well prepared and tasted good. I would definitely recommend planning an event here. Mentor 7/29/2007 Fear not I had planned lunch for a retiring coworker here and after reading the reviews was a little nervous. We met and my fears were all for nothing. Fresh bread , still steaming, was brought to the table with dipping oil and the buffet was outstanding. I especially enjoyed the chicken marsala, the baked ziti and the sausage and peppers. A great value for the price I will be back on a regular basis. Jeff from Lakewood 7/24/2006 Great as usual On a business trip this week, I brought a party of three (colleagues) for dinner to Agostinos. No one ordered the same entree's and all were impressed with their choices. (Veal parm, veal saltimbocca, "tour of Italy") I've dined in Rome, Venice, Florence, and Milan, and regularly on Federal Hill in Providence and the Italian North End of Boston. Agostino's has Italian down! Great job, Nancy! James Ellison 7/5/2006 The Best Cleary the individuals that have posted poor reviews do not know real Italian food. Perhaps they would be better suited at the Olive Garden or similar establishment. Most do not know true Italian foods and flavors, they think they do because they have been to a few Italian restaurants, watched movies on Italians and/or have a great-grandparent that came from Italy 100 years ago. Those of us who are true Italians, raised and immersed in the culture, know what great Italian food is and love Agostino's for its authenticity! Great job Nancy, Phil and the gang at Agostino's keep up the spectacular job and outstanding, authentic food! Maria from Hinckley 6/28/2006 Disappointment The service was better than the food and the service wasn't all that great. Inattentive would be the best word to apply to both the service and the food. I had always thought well of this restaurant based on longevity and reputation. My one and certainly only visit there was as I said disappointing. Maybe I caught them on a bad night but you only get one chance to make a first impression. There are too many restaurants around town that I haven't tried to revisit a disappointing one instead. Cleveland 2/16/2006 FrancoAmerican in a Can is a Better Deal My husband and I had one of the worst dining experiences of our lives at Agostino's. The service was just awful and the food was cold tasted ordinary at best and was ridiculously overpriced. The sauce was runny and the sausage didn't even taste like sausage. Cleveland Oh 1/16/2006 Major Disappointment Despite living in Cleveland for most of my life most of it on the West Side and having heard of Agostino's for decades I hadn't managed to make it there until recently. Big disappointment. The food was OK the service was poor the value was poor. At these prices you would expect something tasting better than you might expect out of a jar. Maybe the chef and staff were just having a bad night. Maybe I am being overly critical because I don't like being treated with condescension--especially when what they deliver is routine. Maybe. But I'm not about to bother going back to find out. Cleveland 1/6/2006 De Best!!!! Mandiamo is "Let's eat" in Italian and you can't just say it unless you really have something deliciouso (or whatever). Well we definitely had it at Agostino's. My memory may be a little clouded but I think I have most of the details close. First course: Salata fresh young mozarella balls olive oil-soaked red bell peppers Prosciutto genoa salami Second Course: Calamari and Shrimp antipasta with a dash of spices Third Course: Rolé - That little dash sign above the "e" gives a touch of class to something that fits the definition of "A Taste of the Old Country." Mama Agostino must have been in the kitchen and made it special. As far as I could tell Rolé is made from a lasagna pasta that wasn't cut with a fluted pasta wheel. Simply the noodle is cooked then layed out. A mixture of freshly grated mozarella and a creamy marinara sauce was spread across the pasta then rolled. It must have cooked like that then Mama must have stood it on end and covered it in more of the marinara and served us. I may be totally wrong with that description but enough to say it was incredible. With the delectable smell magnified by the visual of the steam we didn't waste any time. Add to that the house recommendation of Luce red wine Toscana 1998 Della Vita. Nancy came out herself to talk with us about the wine. It carried a strong earthy musky taste that fit the richness of the Rolé (it must be capitalized it was that good). When that bottle was finished we went to Luce's little cousin Lucita similar earthiness and a good way to end a good meal. We were too full for dessert so a cappucino had to suffice. Many thanks to our friend Victor our gracious host at Nancy and Phil's Agostino's Ristorante. David van Wingerden from Oberlin 6/25/2005 Agostino's: Just say yes!!! Hello my name is Nancy my father(Phil) and I are the new owners of Agostino's Ristorante!! We took over the restaraunt in October of 2004 and it has been a huge success! The food is excellent the service is good and the atmosphere is great! My family is from Italy so we know great food. On Saturday nights we have live mandolin and accordian music. All of our guests have a wonderful time and come back to see us again! We have a banquet facility that seats up to 120 guests and we keep it booked with christenings and bridal showers every week end and corporate events during the week!! We also own Gentile's bakery and deli on Broadview Rd. about 5min. away in Old Brooklyn. My mom hand makes the bread and pastries every day so you know the desserts are incredible!! Thank you to all of our customers and to the new customers who read this please stop by and give us a try! You will be happy that you did! See you soon!!!! Nancy Gentile-Bolzan from North Royalton 3/24/2005 agostino's --just say no Unfortunately this had to be the worst dining experience I have had in 10 years! We had reservations for 20 which they managed to sort of fill. The service however was atrocious. Two adults were not even given menus. We got to order of the kiddy menu because that is all we ever saw. We had to share sliverware settings. Salads were served after the main course. Two dressings were on the table but additional choices were mentioned only after most of the salads were consumed. I ordered soup. It was served most of the other people were almost done eating. Unfortunately it was not edible. ( I do not want to even mention what was probably floating in it) I had to ask to have it removed from the table and nobody offered to replace it with any other item. We were charged for the soup. The children in this family outing were quite well behaved but were treated extremely poorly. Drink orders were wrong three times! The highlight of the evening came when the eleven year old asked for a root beer and the waitress actually served him a Budweiser... I am not kidding! The same poor child asked for ketchup. It arrived 25 minutes later ... after the food was to cold to even eat it with! Our portion of the bill for 6 people...keep in mind I never even got a meal was $185.00.... Such a deal.....
