The WORST EVER Spare yourself a possible aneurysm, heart attack, stroke, humiliation, and/or credit card theft and go somewhere else. Like other reviewers, we found the service borderline pathetic. Our server spent more time at the bar with her boyfriend than actually serving. After being seated, we ordered the $2 "happy" hour margarita. We were told that we could only have the “happy” hour price if we sat in the front of the restaurant. The margaritas were decent and the food was passable (barely). However, the real trauma began when we attempted to pay the bill. The server returned to our table, disgusted, and told us our credit card was declined. Horrified, I gave her my debit/credit card. After 15 minutes, the manager came to our table and told us that the second card had been declined. I asked him if this was a problem with their system, knowing that I have more than sufficient funds to pay for our crappy meal. He argued with me stating “they hadn’t had a problem all night.” So, we my husband gave him his debit/credit card, from a completely separate account, which was also declined. Again, we suggested that there was a problem with their system and, again, we were told that their system was fine. After the 4th credit card was declined, my husband and I started calling our banks, certain that we where victims of identity theft. The manager hovered over us like we were criminals out to steal a $30 meal. For over 30 minutes we were the credit card thieves trying to steal a crappy Mexican dinner. Eventually, they realized that their credit card “processor” was down. His solution was for us to write down the credit card number for him, so he could run it later - seriously. I have never been so embarrassed, mortified and angry in my life!!! Lakewood 5/7/2008 Dissappointing!!! My husband and I went here for dinner a couple of weeks ago and we were very disappointed! The tables were so tiny that the waiter had trouble putting our drinks and food on it at the same time, our appetizer and entree's were delivered at the same time, and where was our waiter when we needed more ice-water? No where to be found! We won't be going back! olmsted falls 2/20/2008 Aweome I don't know why people are speaking so negatively about Agave. Me and my husband just went in this past Saturday and had a fantastic time. I think the owner sat us and was very nice and quick to seat us. Our server immediately walked up to introduce herself just seconds after we sat down. She did a great job explaining the menu and suggesting items to try. The food looked and tasted phenomenal. Our server always made sure we were ok and that our glasses were never empty. The atmosphere was so much fun. Everyone was smiling, talking etc. The music was very upbeat and fun. We will definately be back at Agave and definately recommend to our friends and family. Welcome Agave!!! Broadview Heights 2/18/2008 Amazing Why are people being so negative. My recent visit this past saturday was amazing. I think the owner sat us and he was very pleasant. Then our server was wonderful. She welcomed us along with a great introduction to the menu and her suggestions were perfect! Food came out in a timely fashion, and looked great. Our server always made sure our glasses were filled and made sure we were ok. The atmosphere was fun. This will be a restaurant that we will definately recommend to others and will return always.!!! Great Job Agave!!! Anonymous 2/18/2008 Overpriced Less than average food. Poor service. Expensive. Not even authentic Mexican food!!!! WILL NEVER RETURN Westlake 2/5/2008 awful i wish i would have gone to Mi Pueblo instead. Cleveland 2/3/2008 Mexican Food... Really?? For a Sunday afternoon and for there being few people there I was surprisingly underwelmed. We walked in and stood in amazement as there was no hostess or that anyone looked interested on wanting to seat us. However, I was with my wife and girls and so we pressed on... to our regrets... Finally got seated! That was the best part of the experience, because it took another 5 to 10 minutes for a waitress to decide if we had been helped yet... I found the menu way overpriced for the value of the meal. By the quality of the meals it was as if they went to Giant Eagle and bought some frozen entrees and served them. Everything had to be frozen or processed. Needless to say there will not be a return visit for the dining cuisine. The bar area looked inviting, but that is about it. Don't go there for the food. I would give the place another 6 months tops. Disappointing and made me wish we would have just gone to Chipolte for better food, quantiy, and cost. I work for a food manufacturer as a Regional Manager and this was just poor. Olmsted Falls 1/27/2008 WHAT!?! I'm not sure I ate at the same place as previous reviewers. My husband and I and a group of friends ate there 2 weeks ago and had a fabulous time!!! The mojitos are fantastic, the food tasty and the atmoshere happening. Our server was incredibly knowledgable and helpful. She helped us navigate through the menu and we were very please with her suggetions and our final selection. I suspect previous reviewers who didn't like the food are used to fajita "skillets" at Applebee's and have no idea what authentic Mexican food tastes like. I'll be back!! Again and again. Anonymous 1/9/2008 GREAT I can't believe some of the previous reviewers were at the same place I was. I've eaten there three times so far and it's been great each time. I don't drink so I can't comment on the drinks my my friends had margaritas and mojitos and thought they were fine. The food was better than anything I've had at Momocho or Lopez and the service always good. We've never waited long for anything and the girl who served us the last two times was very knowledgable. I think it's a great addition to the area, nice to be able to get great, authentic Mexican that rivals luchitas right here in Westlake! westlake 1/6/2008 NEW FAVORITE RESTAURANT!!!! After multiple visits to Agave, I can say it is now my new favorite restaurant! They have only been open for a short amount of time (about a month I believe) yet the service was impressive along with the amazing authentic food! My only critism is the cafeteria styled seating in back. Once you sit down though and get your food you forget all about it. In the front seems to be where all the action takes place. It includes the bar and tv's.The seating is wonderful with chairs that you sink in to. I am very excited for my next return. I heard that on Saturday nights they will be having their live Mexican band starting up. If you haven't been to Agave yet, you MUST give it a try!!! Anonymous 1/6/2008 Are you KIDDING me? I took my New York friend here for lunch last week. I was EMBARRASSED. When we first walked in, there was no hostess to be found. (Maybe she was applying eyeliner). When she showed up, she told us there would be a 15-20 min. wait, even though we saw empty tables galore! We took a seat at the (empty) bar where we found a really sullen, cracked-out looking bartender girl. She barely acknowledged us. Other staff were sort of milling around. It was like the Twilight Zone! The only things we saw coming out of the kitchen were bowls of the complimentary chips they give you as you wait. And wait. And wait. 45 minutes went by after we ordered 2 soft tacos from the lunch specials menu. At that time, the hostess came up to us and asked if we were still waiting to be seated...ummmm? We told her we had decided to eat at the bar. HAD we been waiting, she seated others before us. So was she ignoring us? After a few more minutes, I told the sullen bartender that we could not wait any longer and would like to pay for our drinks. She said "she'd have to get somebody" to take our meal off the tab. WHAT? We just put some money on the bar and had to endure dirty looks from the bartender, eyeliner hostess, and some weird guy with raver pants as they discussed us and pointed. ADIOS AMIGOS!! NEVER again. Avon Lake 12/31/2007 Very disappointing The atmosphere is very cold. The service is mediocre at best. We started out with the goat cheese quacamole (not even close to Momochos). It was 'presented' with a very small bowl of chips. No appetizer plates were given until we asked upon receiving the next app. The plating is very plain. The food is average at best with above average prices. The golden margs appeared to be from a mix with very little alcohol. The pomegranite margs were average at best. The whole experience was below average,,,,at best. Was planning on buying gift cards from Agave before we went but passed after the poor experience. We'll never go back! Westlake 12/27/2007 Great Food!!! I went to Agave a couple weeks ago with some friends and has an awesome time. The food was amazing and the service was good. The employees were in training while we were there but the food was amazing. I'm looking forward to the full menu coming out soon. I would definitely suggest this restuarant (even if you're not normally a mexican fan). Westlake, OH 12/18/2007 Come on!! We've waited for a great mexican place like Agave, for what seems like EVER! Finally it comes to the westside but with sketchy service at best. Being NOT from here 'mediocre' service is what seems to be the theme. To get the appropriate service or consistant you have to go either to Morton's or Cheese Cake. Been to Agave 4 times and on the 3rd time our waiter was DRUNK with horrible service. The rest of the staff continued to stand around and seemed to just 'watch' us (only one other table was present). Infact, even after going to the bar the bartender (female- blond) didn't really know what she was doing or how to pour a drink. The food is excellent! But you need EXCELLENT service to match- otherwise you'll end up being just like the 'other' resturants in the area- with staff that don't seem to care. You can do it!! Mexican food lover from westlake 12/10/2007 Not worth it! I just ate at this place over the weekend. At first glance it looks like a cool hip place to eat at. However, that quickly changed after the hostess took me to my table. The back area of the restaurant is hidden behind a wall that seperates the bar from the mass "cafeteria" like space in the back. It resembles nothing of a mexican establishment. The best way to describe the scene is to compare it to a airport mexican restaurant but worse. The food too lacked the same flair. The guacomole was awful and I suspect it is not made on site. I also had a pitcher ($28) of the house margaritas and that too lacked tasted and I suspect again, alcohol. The food was completely plain. The chicken mole was nothing but BBQ sauce! The meat itself was dry. If you are looking for good mexican food you are better off eating at Don Pablo's or any of the other neiborhood places around Cleveland. I have no problem spending $80 on a meal for two but not at this place. I felt as if I was robbed! Absolutely not worth it!
